Big 10 Cancels Football Season, No Minnesota Football: Reports
The Minnesota Gophers may not take a gridiron again until 2021.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — The Big Ten has reportedly voted to cancel the fall football season.
During his radio show on Monday, Dan Patrick reported that the Big Ten's presidents voted 12-2 to cancel the upcoming football season. The lone dissenting voices came from Nebraska and Iowa, Patrick reported.
The announcement from the Big Ten officially canceling the season is expected Tuesday, the Detroit Free Press reported. This would mean the Ohio State Buckeyes won't play competitive football again until 2021.

The Big Ten originally scheduled an all conference schedule for its teams. Minnesota was set to play Michigan State on Sept. 9.
The decision to cancel the season comes amid controversy involving fall sports in America. While COVID-19 continues to spread in Minnesota and other states, Division I athletes across the nation have started the #IWantaSeason and #WeWanttoPlay campaigns, which featured prominent players like Travor Lawrence and Justin Fields advocating for football to be played this fall.

However, other conferences have already begun pulling the plug on fall athletics. The Ivy League and Mid-American Conference canceled football earlier this year, shifting the focus to more prominent football-focused colleges, like those in the Big Ten.
According to Dan's source, 12 of the 14 Presidents from the Big 10 have voted against having a Fall College Football season. Iowa and Nebraska were the two that have been pushing to play.
