MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Bob Kroll, the current president of the Minneapolis police union, plans to retire at the end of January, according to a news report from KSTP.

"After reviewing the bigger picture, it is in my family's best interest for me to retire four months early," Kroll told the news station.

In August, Kroll said on a radio station that he wants to retire but would stay on the job to fight his political opponents.

Kroll is an outspoken conservative and supporter of President Donald Trump, which puts him in sharp contrast with the progressive city council and mayor in Minneapolis.

Kroll rallied with Trump when he visited Minneapolis in 2019. His union sold "Cops for Trump" shirts for the rally after the police department banned its officers from wearing their uniforms at political events.
