Christmas Day 2020: What's Open, Closed In Minneapolis

From liquor stores to the post office, here's a look at what's open and what's closed on Christmas Day in Minneapolis.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Minneapolis city offices will be closed Friday, Dec. 25, in observance of the Christmas Day holiday. City offices will reopen Monday.

Here's what you need to know:

Garbage and recycling – There are no garbage or recycling pick-ups on Friday, Dec. 25. Friday’s collections are delayed a day and will take place Saturday, Dec. 26. The South Transfer Station closes early at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow, Dec. 24, and is closed Friday, Dec. 25. The Solid Waste and Recycling Customer Service Office is also closed Friday.
Metered parking – The City's metered parking spaces are not enforced Dec. 25. Other metered parking restrictions in the city may be in effect and subject to enforcement, including Park Board, University of Minnesota and private organizations that operate their own meters. Always read the information posted on the meter to be certain.
311 –Minneapolis 311 is taking calls tomorrow, Dec. 24, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is closed Friday, Dec. 25.
911 and emergency services – The holiday does not affect Minneapolis police and fire emergency services.

  • Post office: Closed
  • Federal offices: Closed
  • Most county offices are closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day
  • Banks: Closed
  • Gas stations: Many will remain open
  • Liquor stores: All Minnesota liquor stores are legally required to close on Christmas Day
  • Other retailers: Call ahead to confirm holiday hours
