Connect With Your Date

Tips from LUMA–Luxury Matchmaking that will help you make a lasting impression on your date.

Tips to connect with your date!

  1. Find common ground, but don’t be a "Yes ma'am". This can be done by offering him or her a different perspective that can be intriguing.
  2. Pay attention and make observations - Everyone wants to feel special and that someone is really taking a genuine interest.
    1. Show agreement when they make a good point (if you agree)
    2. Make an observation about their opinions
  3. Be mysterious
    1. Don’t talk the whole time. Leave somethings up to the imagination.
    2. Be clever in how they find out interesting things about you. Instead of saying you're successful or smart. You can show them by saying something interesting about society issues, current events, or whatever you know a lot about. For example, you're a Chemist, so you could explain something interesting in layman's terms.
  4. Be Positive
    1. Be polite and wise
  5. Be confident, but funny
    1. "Since you like me, why don’t you just give me my drink."
  6. Wait to call about 2 days versus running home and calling them right after you get their phone number.
  7. Wind them up - 2 steps forward, one step back
    1. Banter/teasing - sarcasm, poking fun
  8. Touch - Use touch to build a connection by using simple short touching to his or her elbow and/or shoulder. These are harmless and help to build up the connection.
  9. Intense eye contact, but don't be a creep. It's ok to make them squirm a little bit to feel the tension.
  10. Say their name. People love the sound of their names and it grabs their attention. Don't be afraid to say it a couple of times throughout the conversation just to build up the connection and help to iterate your point.
  11. Story telling - This is one of the best ways to entertain and get people to like being around you. Have a couple of great stories on hand and practice the art of story telling.
