Coronavirus: Minnesota Tops 6K Cases; 395 Deaths

ACROSS MINNESOTA — The Minnesota Department of Health on Saturday reported nearly 500 new positive cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus. There is now a total of 6,228 confirmed cases in the state.

The department reported 498 new cases Saturday, just a day after the state saw its biggest spike in those testing positive for the disease. At least 395 Minnesotans have died from COVID-19.

The highest concentration of cases remains in Hennepin County, which reported 1,980 cases and 295 deaths Saturday.

The most impacted Minnesota counties include:

  • Nobles County: 899 cases, 1 death
  • Stearns County: 531 cases, 0 deaths
  • Ramsey County: 453 cases, 31 deaths
  • Olmsted County: 282 cases, 8 deaths
  • Anoka County: 260 cases, 14 deaths
  • Dakota County: 189 cases, 11 deaths
  • Clay County: 169 cases, 13 deaths
  • Kandiyohi County: 145 cases, 1 death
  • Washington County: 142 cases, 12 deaths
  • Martin County: 110 cases, 4 deaths

Total approximate number of completed tests: 79,007

  • Total approximate number of completed tests from the MDH Public Health Lab: 12,869
  • Total approximate number of completed tests from external laboratories: 66,138

Total cases requiring hospitalization: 1,159

  • Hospitalized as of Saturday: 389
  • Hospitalized in ICU as of Tuesday: 135

Patients no longer needing isolation: 2,397

Gender: 48 percent female, 50 percent male, <1 percent other, 2 percent unknown/missing

Health care workers who have contracted the virus: 853

Gov. Tim Walz Thursday extended the "Stay Home" order in Minnesota until Monday, May 18. However, starting May 4, retail businesses and other non-critical businesses may begin offering curbside pick-up.
