Darnella Frazier's Uncle Killed In Crash With Minneapolis Police

Darnella Frazier, who filmed the murder of George Floyd, identified her uncle in Tuesday's fatal crash with Minneapolis police.

MINNEAPOLIS — Darnella Frazier, the woman who won an honorary Pulitzer Prize for filming the murder of George Floyd on her cell phone, said her uncle was killed in a crash with a Minneapolis police squad car during a pursuit Tuesday.

Frazier's uncle — Leneal — was a bystander. The suspect in the police chase remains at large.

"I honestly can’t believe I’m making this post right now...I’m so hurt...nothing feels real," Frazier wrote on Facebook."I woke up to the most horrible news."

Frazier confirmed in the post that her uncle was killed in the police pursuit.

Just before 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, an officer spotted a carjacked vehicle at 6th Street North and Lowry Avenue, according to authorities. The car was involved in several robberies, police said.

The officer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the driver did not stop, according to authorities.

During the pursuit, the police car going northbound collided with a westbound car at Lyndale Avenue at 41st Avenue North. A car going southbound was also involved in the collision.

The officer and the driver of the westbound car — identified as Frazier's uncle — were taken to North Memorial Hospital by ambulance. The officer suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Frazier's uncle died soon after arriving at the hospital.

A GoFundMe page has been established to raise funds for the family.
