Ellison Comments on Janet Yellen Nomination as Next Chair of Federal Reserve

Rep. Keith Ellison released the following statement today after President Barack Obama announced that he will nominate Dr. Janet Yellen to be the next Chairman of the Federal Reserve

“I applaud President Obama’s choice to nominate Dr. Janet Yellen as the next Chairman of the Federal Reserve. Dr. Yellen is the most qualified choice to lead the Federal Reserve and I hope she is quickly and unanimously confirmed.

“Dr. Yellen is focused on employment at a time when 11 million Americans are out of work and the bulk of new jobs are low-wage jobs. She understands the important role the Federal Reserve can play in promoting economic policies that help working families. I hope she will act aggressively to protect consumers and help Americans get back to work.

“Dr. Yellen previously served as Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco and as Chair of the Council of Economic Advisors under President Clinton. She is eminently qualified to continue our recovery from the Great Recession. As Vice-Chair of the Board of Governors under Chairman Bernanke, she has proven she is capable of leading the Federal Reserve.”
