George Floyd Suffered Cardiopulmonary Arrest When Restrained: ME

George Floyd​ "experienced a cardiopulmonary arrest while being restrained" by police, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner states.

MINNEAPOLIS — George Floyd suffered a cardiopulmonary arrest when he was restrained by Officer Derek Chauvin during his Memorial Day arrest, according to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner. The manner of death was listed as homicide.

Floyd "experienced a cardiopulmonary arrest while being restrained" by police, the examiner states. Other significant conditions Floyd suffered include arteriosclerotic and hypertensive heart disease, fentanyl intoxication, and recent methamphetamine use, according to the report.

The examiner's ruling was delayed until Monday because it needed "further testing and investigation by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the FBI."

Earlier Monday, an independent autopsy conducted by doctors hired by the legal team representing Floyd's family found he died from asphyxia due to sustained forceful pressure.

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was charged Friday with third-degree murder and manslaughter in connection with Floyd's death.
