Get Out: Weekend Planner

There's more than the Superbowl happening this weekend. Check out puppets, rock'n'roll and short films. And the Superbowl.

Southwest Minneapolis' Yeti Records set up a showcase at the newly reopened Turf Club in St. Paul on Friday. They've booked psychedelic rockers the Leisure Birds, atmospheric all-lady band Is/Is, Food Pyramid, Tender Meat and the Rank Strangers. That's a lot of bands! Doors are at 9 p.m. The show costs $6 and is 21+.

Short film artist Jay Rosenblatt will present his latest work on Friday at the Walker Art Center. It's called The D Train. The show also includes presentation of other short works: Afraid So, The Darkness of Day, I Just Wanted to Be Somebody, and Phantom Limb. Rosenblatt will then talk to Walker film and video curator Sheryl Mousley. It starts Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Walker Cinema, and is $8 for non-members.

PuppetLab open this weekend at Heart of the Beast. This weekend's show incudes Mortal City, a piece by Bart Buch and Blake Love, and Endurance, a "puppet saga" by prolific artist Soozin Hischmugl. Shows are Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. It costs $12 or pay-what-you-can. Heart of the Beast is located at 1500 East Lake Street in Minneapolis.
