House GOP Group Pushes To Oust Rep. Ilhan Omar From Committees
The move against Omar is retaliation against Democrats who say Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene should not serve on House committees.

WASHINGTON, DC — A group of Republicans in the House of Representatives is trying to remove Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar from committee assignments, retaliation against a similar effort by Democrats aimed at controversial GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia.
Omar, a second-term congresswoman, represents Minneapolis and some of its suburbs.
Texas Republican Rep. Brian Babin is leading the move to oust Omar, supported by Reps. Jody Hice of Georgia, Andy Biggs of Arizona and fellow Texan Ronny Jackson, Forbes reported.

Democrats are targeting Greene because of her support of many conspiracy theories, including the belief that the deadly mass school shootings in Parkland, Florida, and Newtown, Connecticut, were staged.
Babin cited tweets from Omar about Israel in his resolution.

Yes. If the Democrat Majority wants to go down this road, they should start by dealing with their own members who have been at this before and AFTER their election to Congress. https://t.co/YIRhoNOf8L pic.twitter.com/r0yBN2aGFx

Omar publicly apologized in 2019 after leaders in her own party criticized her over the tweets. Omar had said members of Congress supported Israel because they're paid by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.
Following those remarks, Minnesota Republican Chairwoman Jennifer Carnahan called for Omar to be removed from the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.
Democrat Rep. Dean Phillips, whose district borders Omar's, rushed to her defense Wednesday. Phillips said it is wrong to equate Omar with Greene.
Get a grip on reality. Rep. @Ilhan Omar didn’t belittle a school shooting survivor, claim that no airplane hit the Pentagon on 9/11, insist lasers started the CA wildfires, or endorse the assassination of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives. https://t.co/6YLl6eJGNX

Omar was first elected to Congress in 2018 after serving in the Minnesota House. She is the first Somali American member of Congress and one of the first two Muslim American women elected to Congress.
