Lake Harriet Band Shell Wins Award
The 25-Year Award highlights good architectural design that's long-lived.

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) is recognizing the Lake Harriet Band Shell with its 2011 Minnesota 25-year Award.
The band shell, which opened in 1986, was designed by Bentz, Thompson and
Rietow. It's generally regarded as the most succesful development at the site, which has hosted many public buildings since events first started there in the 1880s (see our enlightening ).
Since 1981, the 25-Year Award recognizes architecture that's stood the test of time.
“The Lake Harriet Band Shell has a positive impact on its surrounding community and is beloved by the city," read a statement released by the contest's judges. "It is an icon within the Minneapolis park system in which families and residents can enjoy and create memories."
