MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Metro Transit announced that it will be suspending service as of 4 p.m. Thursday "out of concern for the safety of riders and employees."

The decision to temporarily shut down transit throughout the Twin Cities follows multiple days of chaos and violence that has ensued after the death of George Floyd.

"Out of concern for the safety of riders and employees, Metro Transit bus and light rail service will be suspended from 4 p.m. thru at least the rest of Thursday," Metro Transit tweeted Thursday afternoon. "Airport shuttle and Northstar trips will operate. Update to be posted on social media channels by 10 p.m."
