Minneapolis Public Schools Cancel After-School Activities

Snow and extremely icy conditions continue to cause problems in the Twin Cities metro.

MINNEAPOLIS — As extremely icy conditions continue in the metro, Minneapolis Public Schools will be canceling after-school activities for Tuesday. All student after-school activities are canceled this afternoon, including Early Childhood Family Education classes (ECFE) and athletic practices.

Programming that will continue includes:

  • Athletic competitions. Families should check with their school for updates.
  • Minneapolis Kids will remain open until all children are picked up.
  • Adult evening Community Education classes will continue as scheduled unless otherwise arranged by a teacher.
  • The Board of Education’s Committee of the Whole meeting scheduled for tonight will still take place.

The decision was made to prioritize student safety due to ongoing concerns about road conditions and transportation delays due to snow and ice. The primary criteria MSP considers when making weather-related decisions include:

  • The safety and well-being of students and staff
  • Severity of the weather (extreme cold, flooding, etc.)
  • The ability for buses and cars to travel safely
  • Timing of weather
