Minnesota Gophers To Hire Xavier Assistant Coach: Report
The Minnesota Gophers have reportedly found the next head coach for the men's basketball team.
MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Gophers appear to have their new men's basketball coach. Xavier University assistant Ben Johnson is set to be the team's next head coach, ESPN's Jeff Borzello reported on Twitter Monday.
The Minneapolis native played two seasons for Minnesota before graduating from the school in 2005. He will replace Richard Pitino, who was fired in March after coaching the team for eight seasons.
Johnson is a Minneapolis native who graduated from Minnesota in 2005. He played two seasons for the Golden Gophers. He established himself as a high-level recruiter in the state, namely landing top-100 prospect and future pro Amir Coffey.
