MN Weather: Cool Down In The Forecast

TWIN CITIES, MN — The good news for Minnesotans who are tired of the extreme heat is that after Sunday, the temperatures will not hit 90 this week. In fact, Friday might just barely crack the 80s.

"Today will be another hot one, but then we'll cool down a bit," says the National Weather Service. "It still looks like a weak frontal boundary will give us at least a chance of rain on Thursday."

The record-stretch of 90 degree days in June has created severe drought conditions.

Here's the full NWS forecast for the Twin Cities metro area:

Sunday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 97. West wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Sunday Night: Clear, with a low around 64. North wind 10 to 15 mph decreasing to 5 to 10 mph after midnight.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 89. North northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Monday Night: Clear, with a low around 62. North wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light north northeast in the evening.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 84. Northeast wind around 5 mph.

Tuesday Night: Clear, with a low around 60. East wind 5 to 10 mph.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 86. South southeast wind 5 to 10 mph.

Wednesday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 68. South southeast wind 5 to 10 mph.

Thursday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 90. South wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west southwest in the afternoon.

Thursday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers before 1am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 65. West wind 5 to 10 mph.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 83. West northwest wind 5 to 15 mph.
