MN Weather: Thursday Will Be Hottest Day Yet

An excessive heat warning is in effect for Hennepin, Anoka, Ramsey, Washington, Carver, Scott, and Dakota counties.

TWIN CITIES, MN — Thursday will be the hottest day of an already record-breaking heatwave. The high will be 97 degrees, and the heat index will make it feel like it's 101 degrees.

An excessive heat warning is in effect from 11 a.m. through 8 p.m. Thursday for Hennepin, Anoka, Ramsey, Washington, Carver, Scott, and Dakota counties.

"The Twin Cities will break the record for the longest 90 degree day streak this early in the season today (day 7)," the National Weather Service said Wednesday.

"Also, 5 of the last 6 days have seen record warm lows at MSP Airport. Lows have been around the average high of 77 degrees at MSP."

The good news is the weekend will be relatively cooler. The high Saturday will be 88 degrees, ending the record streak of days in the 90s.

Thursday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 97. Heat index values as high as 101. South southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
Thursday Night: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms between 8pm and 11pm. Mostly clear, with a low around 73. South wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 1pm and 4pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 92. South wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west southwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
Friday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10pm, then a slight chance of showers between 10pm and 1am. Mostly clear, with a low around 66. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 88. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
Saturday Night: Clear, with a low around 64. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light and variable in the evening.
Sunday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 93. West southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
