New Bank of America Employee Finds Artistic Outlet through Community Revitalization Project

Twin Cities transplant Rachelle Lear fuels her creativity through Bank of America's partnership with Hennepin Theatre Trust

After moving from Michigan to Minnesota and starting her new job at Bank of America’s financial center in the IDS Center, she thought she would be hanging up her art history degree and moving on to a career in a very different industry. Much to Rachelle’s surprise, this was not entirely the case.

New to Bank of America and working in one of the bank’s new financial centers in Minneapolis, Rachelle was eager to get involved in the community when an opportunity presented itself much sooner than she expected. In August, Bank of America and Hennepin Theatre Trust hosted a joint volunteer event with Twin Cities community members to build a 25-foot community made vertical mosaic garden composed of individual mosaics handmade by event participants.

“Community revitalization is a fun and unique way to unite new community members, like me, and long-time residents together with one another,” Lear said. “Plus, it’s rewarding to see the final results beautify such a diverse spot in the city!”

Lear was one of 78 volunteers from Bank of America, Hennepin Theatre Trust and the community that helped to bring the large-scale mosaic to life. Take a look for yourself – the mosaic is now on display at 900 Hennepin Ave. next to the historic Orpheum Theatre.
