Over 400 New Coronavirus Cases In Minnesota; 8 Deaths

Ahead of Fourth of July, another 423 cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in Minnesota.

Another 423 cases of the coronavirus were reported in Minnesota on Friday and eight people died from the illness, according to the latest numbers from the state department of health. The number of new daily reported cases is lower than the previous day when 500 new cases of the illness were reported.

Of the new cases on Friday, the majority (105) were in Hennepin County, followed by Dakota (37), Ramsey (32) and Stearns (30) counties. Four of the patients who died from the illness were Ramsey County residents, two of them were between 80-89, one was 70-79 and the fourth patients 60-69. Three Hennepin County residents who died were between 80-89 and a Clay County resident between 70-79 also died from the illness.

In all, the state has seen 37,624 cases of the virus and 1,466 deaths. Overall, those between the ages of 20-29 now make up the age group with the highest number of cases, followed by those between the ages of 30-39.

As of Friday, 270 Minnesotans are hospitalized with the virus and 132 patients are in the intensive care unit.

In its latest weekly coronavirus report, the Minnesota Department of Health said that the number of laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus represent a fraction of the total illnesses since many people aren't tested.

The department continues to advise residents to practice social distancing and stay home as much a possible, wash their hands and follow the CDC's recommendation on wearing a face mask or covering in grocery stores and other public places where its hard to stay six-feet apart.
