Photographic Fundraiser Focuses On Leon Shambroom

Works by Alec Soth and Yoko Ono were among those available to raise money for the care of the South Minneapolis fire victim.

A picture might be worth a thousand words, but a couple dozen photographs raised thousands of dollars Thursday night at the .

The Leon Shambroom Benefit Auction drew work from some of the Twin Cities' most acclaimed and accomplished photographers and other artists. Proceeds went to the continued care of Shambroom, the son of Minneapolis photographer Paul Shambroom and art curator Joan Rothfuss.

Nearly one year ago, the younger Shambroom, 25, inhaled smoke, fell into a coma and suffered severe brain damage from a house fire in South Minneapolis.

Alec Soth, Chris Mars and, of all people, Yoko Ono were among those who contributed photographs and other artwork, drawing bids from moneyed art denizens.
