Police Blotter: License Plate Thefts and Facebook Harassment

This blotter covers only a fraction of police reports filed in Southwest Minneapolis from Feb 4-14. All details come from Minneapolis Police Department reports.

Feb. 13: Police were called to the 4300 block of Blaisdell Avenue to investigate a burglary. There are no suspects.

Feb. 9: An apartment on the 3600 block of Lyndale Avenue South was burglarized between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. Police are investigating further.

Feb. 9: The front license plate was stolen off a car parked on the 4100 block of Pillsbury Avenue the night before. The victim only noticed it was gone because there was a citation on the window. Police recommended she just get new license plates.

Feb. 8: A license plate was also stolen off a car on the 4100 block of Grand Avenue sometime in the late night or early morning.

Feb. 7: Two apartments on the 4900 block of Bryant Avenue were burglarized. The suspects forced open the apartment building’s secure outside door with a pry bar, then kicked in the victims’ front doors. Both apartments suffered extensive losses.

Feb. 7: A 51-year-old man was arrested at the Holiday Station at 5444 Nicollet Avenue for possessing of a stolen firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm and driving with a suspended license. A 17-year-old who was with him was arrested for drug possession and illegal possession of a handgun.

Feb. 7: A Kingfield man contacted police after an acquaintance falsely posted on Facebook that the man had kidnapped the acquaintance’s daughter, urging Facebook friends to call police with descriptions of the man’s car. This came after an argument, and 20 text messages from the acquaintance threatening to report the man to police, get him deported or get the acquaintance’s brother to beat the man up.

Feb. 5: A 19-year-old woman was arrested after punching and scratching her ex-boyfriend’s neck after an argument broke out over her seeing a new man. Police observed scratch marks and found her in an alley a block and a half away. The ex-boyfriend was visiting his 3-year-old child.

Feb. 4: A suspect robbed at gunpoint the Subway sandwich shop at 5317 Lyndale Avenue right before 9 p.m. The shop lost under $150.

Feb. 4: A 28-year-old man lost his car keys while his car was legally parked on the 5400 block of Lyndale Avenue. After a day of getting rides from co-workers, he brought an extra key, only to find that the car was gone.
