Salon In Minneapolis Closes After 35 Years: Blames Crime, Unrest
The chain of salons will have no locations in Minneapolis after closing its Uptown store.
MINNEAPOLIS — A Minneapolis business says it will close after 35 years in part due to social unrest and crime in the area.
"Our entire team is saddened to announce the closure of our Uptown, Minneapolis location," Juut Salon Spa announced Sunday. "It has become more and more evident that Uptown continues to struggle with store closings, social unrest, crime, and street closures."
The spa's statement came after the June 3 fatal police shooting of Winston Boogie Smith Jr., and hours before a car drove into a protest, killing one woman and injuring another person.

"We would be heartbroken if anything were to happen to our team members or clients. With that at the forefront, we made this difficult decision, knowing it was what was best for the JUUT family."
Juut Salon closed its only other Minneapolis location, in downtown, in 2020 "due to the drastic reduction in traffic since COVID-19."
