Sheriff: 'We Will Not Abandon' Brooklyn Center

Police say officers were again shot at with industrial-sized fireworks, spray paint, rocks, and other items during unrest Wednesday night.

BROOKLYN CENTER, MN — Twenty-four people were arrested in Brooklyn Center Wednesday evening as unrest related to the fatal police shooting of Daunte Wright continued for the fourth night.

Arrests were down dramatically from Tuesday night when more than 60 arrests were made.

"We are thankful that tonight the anxiety, the tension, and the stress seemed to be lower even though emotions are still running high," Minnesota State Patrol Col. Matt Langer said at a news conference.

"The No. 1 tool we wanted to use tonight was patience," he said. "At some point around the time of the curfew, we decided to move in after dispersal orders."

"We will stop violence and criminal activity. We will not abandon the city and the citizens of Brooklyn Center," Hennepin County Sheriff David Hutchinson said.

For the second night in a row, there were no reports of burglaries or looting in Minneapolis, according to Minneapolis Deputy Chief Amelia Huffman.

Ex-Cop Kim Potter Charged In Death Of Daunte Wright

Former Brooklyn Center police officer Kim Potter, 48, was charged with second-degree manslaughter Wednesday in the fatal shooting of Daunte Wright. Potter was arrested by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension agents Wednesday morning and booked into the Hennepin County Jail.

The charge was filed by Washington County Attorney Pete Orput. Potter's case is being handled by the Washington County Attorney's Office after the case was handed over from Hennepin County in order to avoid any conflict of interest.

If convicted, Potter faces up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. Read more here.
