Snow, Freezing Rain Possible Monday In The Twin Cities, NWS Warns

Snow accumulations between 3 and 5 inches are possible in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area, according to the National Weather Service.

TWIN CITIES, MN — Hazardous winter weather is possible throughout Monday afternoon and evening in the Twin Cities area, according to the National Weather Service.

The metro will be under a winter weather advisory until 7 p.m. on Monday. During that time, snowfall between 3 and 5 inches is possible, along with freezing drizzle.

A more targeted winter storm warning from the NWS warns snow accumulations between 5 and 9 inches are possible in the area south of a line formed between Redwood Falls, Hutchinson, Chaska and Faribault.

Even after the advisory expires, drivers are urged to exercise additional caution during the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes as slippery roads are possible. Drivers can get road condition updates by calling 511 or visiting 511mn.org.

Snow and freezing drizzle are expected to continue throughout the night and after 4 a.m. Additional accumulations of about one inch are possible.

Temperatures will begin to climb starting on Tuesday, which is expected to bring with it calm winds and a high near 39 degrees. Temperatures will climb to around 47 degrees on Wednesday as clouds move out and a mostly sunny sky enters the forecast.

Temperatures are expected to climb as high as 57 degrees by Saturday before giving way to partly cloudy skies and a slight chance of showers on Sunday.
