New MOA Cinema to Offer Cocktails, Dining, Reclining Seats

The first CMX Midwest location will feature 14 screens, gourmet dining, masterful mixology and luxurious comfort, Mall of America announced.

CMX, a subsidiary of Cinemex, will bring the VIP cinema experience to Mall of America in the fall of 2017, the mall announced Wednesday. Opening on level 4, south, the 64,000-square-foot location will be the first CMX theater to open in the Midwest.

The mall said the new theater will feature cutting-edge audio technology and offer moviegoers the ultimate upscale and relaxing experience with high-end décor, oversized reclining seats, gourmet dining options, wines, and handcrafted cocktails.

The announcement comes after the mall's decision to close the "Theatres at Mall of America" in December after eight years.

“Our theater in Mall of America, the most iconic shopping mall and one of the most visited tourist attractions in the U.S. is a prime location for CMX as we continue our aggressive and strategic U.S. development,” said Jaime Rionda, CEO of CMX, in a statement. “Our CMX cinema will provide moviegoers an exceptional entertainment experience with the latest technology, comfort and gourmet dining.”

Construction will take about nine months to complete as the current theater space is completely overhauled to make way for a new design, according to a news release.
