Vikings Game at Home Sunday, Closures & Detours: Downtown Traffic Update

Minneapolis warns those heading to downtown of weekend road closures and increased traffic due to a home Minnesota Vikings game.

If you're planning on making your way to downtown Minneapolis at some point this weekend, you should be aware of the following events, closures and potential traffic impacts:

Portion of Third Avenue North to close Sept. 21 for an event

Third Avenue North from Washington Avenue North to 2nd Street North will be closed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 21 for the Interact Center Block Event.

Portion of Lowry Avenue Northeast to close Sept. 21 for Minneapolis Bike Coalition Open Streets event

Lowry Avenue North from Emerson Avenue to Vincent Avenue will be closed to motorized traffic from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 for the Minneapolis Bike Coalition Open Streets events.

Vikings - Browns football game

The City of Minneapolis will close several streets around Mall of America Field at the H.H.H. Metrodome as a security measure for the Minnesota Vikings game versus the Cleveland Browns, Sunday, Sept. 22.

Beginning at noon,Sunday, Sept. 22, the City will close the following streets:

  • Fifth Street, from 11th Avenue to Park Avenue
  • Chicago Avenue, from Third Street to Sixth Street
  • Fourth Street, from Park Avenue to I-35W
  • Norm McGrew Place, from Third Street to Fourth Street

These roads will reopen approximately two hours after the completion of the game (between 4 and 5 p.m.)
