'World’s Most Premature Baby' Celebrates Turning 1
The "world's most premature baby," who was treated at Children's Minnesota in Minneapolis, recently celebrated his first birthday.
MINNEAPOLIS — When Richard Hutchinson was born on June 5, he weighed less than 12 ounces and was 131 days premature. His due date was Oct. 13.
After his birth, he was transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Children’s Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis.
Despite being the "world’s most premature baby" that was given zero percent odds of survival, Hutchinson celebrated his first birthday earlier this month, Guinness World Records reports.

"When Rick and Beth received prenatal counselling on what to expect with a baby born so early, they were given a 0% chance of survival by our neonatology team," Children’s Minnesota neonatologist Dr. Stacy Kern told the organization.
"I knew the first few weeks of Richard’s life would be very difficult, but I felt that if he could make it through that, he would be a survivor."
