Merrimack Officials Asking For Boston Post Cane Nominees
Merrimack officials are searching for the oldest resident in town so they may pass along the Boston Post Cane.
MERRIMACK, N.H. - After Merrimack's oldest person, Carsten “Bud” Hahn, passed away on Feb. 24, Merrimack officials are searching for the oldest resident in town.
According to a release, the Town of Merrimack has begun the search for the oldest resident to become the
new Boston Post Cane holder.
The Boston Post Cane tradition started in 1909 when the Boston Post newspaper delivered the gold-headed ebony canes to 700 towns in New England and requested the canes be presented to the oldest citizen in town and passed on to the next oldest when he or she dies.
