PORTSMOUTH – Two New Hampshire Association artists – photographer Joe Perna and painter Jeff Wagner – have collaborated to exhibit views of the New England Seacoast, through photographs and paintings during May at the Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery.
From Maine to New Hampshire to Massachusetts the Seacoast region shows considerable diversity in coastline, marsh and cozy harbors, and is an image maker’s delight.
Lovely sunsets, stunning waves and rocky coasts are not what people typically associate with New England, but they have been captured by this duo.

“We wanted to show how similar topography can be viewed by two different mediums”, Wagner said. He and Perna have known each other for years, and have exhibited widely individually. This is their first collaboration.
Wagner is primarily a landscape and seascape painter in the local area. He studied at the Otis College of Art & Design in Los Angeles, the New Hampshire Art Institute and Scottsdale Artists School, in addition to attending numerous workshops.

Wagner is originally from California and has a western affinity for visual space – a scarce commodity in New England, but one he tries to capture in his paintings.
Perna is a portrait and commercial photographer in the Seacoast area. He also has an affinity for visiting the seacoast. His images capture a variety of aspects of the places he has visited, from detail photos of marshes and inlets to quiet panorama scenes, some of which are almost monochromatic.
Perna has studied photography in classes at New York University and Maine Media College, as well as attended various workshops.
