Delay in Connie Bean Condo Redevelopment
Steve Wilson of Exeter will pitch his $1.5 million redevelopment plan at a future Planning Board meeting.
The developer of the former Connie Bean Center will not seek site plan approval this Thursday from the Planning Board.
According to the Planning Board agenda published on the City of Portsmouth's web site, Steven Wilson of Exeter has opted to wait at least another month before he will bring his plan to create a new residential/commercial project at the former recreation center.
Wilson purchased the property at a city-held auction in December for $1.5 million. According to city documents at the Planning Department, Wilson wants to add a 2-1/2 story addition over the existing gymnasium and build a new 60’ x 40’ 3-story addition on the existing parking lot.
When completed, Wilson would create 18 residential apartment units and 18 lower level parking spaces. The project has generated a great deal of criticism from city residents who want to see the former recreation facility preserved.
The project also represents another key gateway project because its location on Daniel Street is just beyond the Scott Avenue approach of the new Memorial Bridge.
