Police Called After 'Gypsies' Try to Cash Checks

The following information was provided by the Portsmouth Police log. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

The following is an excerpt from the Portsmouth Police log from Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Tuesday:

  • At 7:19 a.m., police arrested a Dover woman who was wanted as a fugitive from justice after she turned herself in at the police station. Janet Lynn Brennan, 39, of 18 Whittier St. was wanted for six counts of default or breach of bail conditions.
  • At 10:30 a.m., police arrested a Portsmouth man following a disorderly conduct complaint on Market Square. Corey Jon Hoffses, 51, address unknown, was charged with violating they city's open container ordinance.
  • At 12:14 p.m., police reported a two-car accident on Penhallow and Daniel streets.
  • At 1:35 p.m., police reported a fraud complaint at a bank on Lafayette Road after the caller said some gypsies were trying to cash a customer's checks.
  • At 5:14 p.m., police reported a $50 theft from a wallet on Rockland Street.
  • At 5:42 p.m., police reported a motor vehicle theft on Parrott Avenue after the female caller claimed that boyfriend took her car without her permission.
