PORTSMOUTH, NH — Members of the Portsmouth and Somersworth police departments have started a GoFundMe.com effort to raise money to help the daughter of one of their own — the girl burned and rescued from a house fire in Webster on Feb. 24.

The Portsmouth Police Relief Association and the Somersworth Police Department NEPBA Union have been providing support to Portsmouth Police Officer Alex McMillen, whose daughter, Molly, was burned during the fire.

Her mother, Mary Elizabeth Corliss of Webster, has been charged with arson, reckless conduct, and child endangerment. Molly's half-brother was also injured during the fire.

Firefighters and police from Concord and the capital region were all sent to the Webster home for a report of a fire from a second-floor bedroom in late February. Three people were removed from the home with severe burns and taken to regional and then Boston hospitals. A six-week investigation led to charges against Corliss — who was accused of barricading herself and two children in the bedroom and lighting the doorway to the room on fire, according to the New Hampshire Fire Marshal's Office.

To help the McMillens, the association and union have started the fundraiser to raise $300,000 to pay for medical bills, lost possessions, and to help resettle Molly with her father. Molly suffered significant injuries during the fire requiring her to be medflighted from New Hampshire to a Boston hospital for care.

"Molly continues to receive medical treatment to aid in both her physical and mental wellbeing following the fire," the orgs said on GoFundMe. "Alex and Molly have unresolved medical bills totaling several hundred thousand dollars to pay for the med flight and treatment Molly received. Officer McMillen is currently on extended leave to provide care and comfort to Molly as he cares for Molly and helps her transition to living with him full time."

At post time, more than $2,600 had been raised toward the effort.
