The PFCs were found in the Haven Well at Pease, and that well was shut down immediately, according to Brian Goetz, Deputy Director of Public Works in Portsmouth.

The former Pease Air Force Base, which operated from 1956 to 1991, used firefighting foam for plane crashes and training exercises and that foam is believed to have contained PFCs that leached into the ground, officials said. The former Pease Air Force Base is currently a Superfund site being cleaned up by the Air Force, with DES and EPA oversight.
