NH ATV Operator Killed In Crash

New Hampshire Fish and Game said a man without a helmet was driving an all-terrain vehicle when he crashed into a tree in Chatham.

CHATHAM, NH — A New Hampshire man driving an all-terrain vehicle in the White Mountains last week was killed when he struck a tree, according to New Hampshire Fish and Game. Roger Johnson, 62, of Chatham, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash in his hometown on Deer Hill Road.

"Johnson was (traveling) along the roadway following another ATV when he left the roadway and struck a large tree," Fish and Game Lieutenant Bradley Morse said in a statement. "Johnson was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash."

Morse added, "The cause of the crash and any contributing factors remain under investigation ... This incident serves as a good reminder for ATV users to utilize safety gear, including helmets, and to operate in a safe manner within the operator’s abilities."
