Pease In Portsmouth Put On Lockdown, No Threats Found

Pease Air National Guard Base in Portsmouth was put on lockdown after reports of gunfire, but no threats were found.

PORTSMOUTH, NH — The Air National Guard at Pease went into lockdown Tuesday after several reports of what sounded like gunfire at Building 100 on the base. Emergency responders approached the incident as an active shooter situation, but after a thorough search no threats have been found, according to a statement by the 157th Air Refueling Wing.

The sounds that sounded like gunfire were reported around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. The base was placed on lockdown and multiple agencies, including state and local law enforcement, responded. The scene was cleared at 12:40 p.m., when officials determined there was no threat, according to the 157th Air Refueling Wing.

The lockdown had been put in place as officials treated the reports with extreme precaution with utmost safety of the community in mind, according to the statement. WMUR has reported that authorities were looking for a suspect vehicle, but that vehicle was later cleared of suspicions.
