Police: Man Put Skimming Device on Downtown ATM

Portsmouth Police say the Bank of America ATM machine on Pleasant Street was targeted in July.

Portsmouth Police are searching for a bank skimming suspect who they say struck the Bank of America ATM machine on Pleasant Street in July.

Det. Sergeant John Peracchi issued a press release on Wednesday afternoon that indicated police are investigating an incident where the suspect placed a skimming device on the ATM at 3 Pleasant St.

Skimming devices are typically placed over the slot where customers insert their ATM cards. The devices can read card information and pin numbers.

Peracchi said the device was placed on the ATM between the dates of July 14 and July 18. The suspect is described as a white male, with brown hair, wearing sunglass, a red t-shirt and gray pants. Surveillance images captured the suspect depicted in the attached photographs.

If anyone has any information about the suspect, they should contact Detective Adam Kozlowski at (603) 610-7538.

According to Bankrate.com, bank skimming devices enable the perpetrator to capture information stored on ATM bank cards so they can withdraw funds from customers' accounts.

People can also call Seacoast Crime Stoppers at 603-431-1199 if you wish to remain anonymous and have information on unsolved crimes or under age alcohol parties. You can also leave an anonymous tip by logging on to www.seacoastcrimestoppers.org or send an SMS text to CRIMES (274637) and include TIPSCS in your message. You could be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000 if your information leads to an arrest and indictment.
