NH Driver Survives After Hitting Tree Off I-95 In Portsmouth

NH State Police said a driver slammed into a tree on Interstate 95 in Portsmouth.

PORTSMOUTH, NH — A New Hampshire driver survived after crashing into a tree off Interstate 95 in Portsmouth Sunday, police said. The driver was identified as a 33-year-old Somersworth man who was hospitalized. Police said driver fatigue likely contributed to the crash.

The crash happened at about 6:15 a.m. as the man was driving a Chevrolet Equinox sport utility vehicle on I-95 south, according to New Hampshire State Police Lieutenant John Hennessey.

"As (the driver) neared exit 3A, he drove off the travel portion of the roadway and struck a tree head on," Hennessey said in a statement. "It appears fatigue may have been a contributing factor ... of this crash."
