Portsmouth Elects a New City Council

Six incumbents were re-elected.

Portsmouth voters on Tuesday elected a new, nine-member City Council.

Here are the victorious candidates and their vote totals:

  • Bob Lister: 2,692
  • Jim Splaine: 2,528
  • Stefany Shaheen: 2,331
  • Esther Kennedy: 2,288
  • Brad Lown: 1,852
  • Chris Dwyer: 1,848
  • Zelita Morgan: 1,792
  • Eric Spear: 1,725
  • Jack Thorsen: 1,693
Kenneth Smith finished 10th with 1,605 votes.

Lister will be mayor and Splaine will be assistant mayor because they received the highest and second-highest vote totals, respectively.

Lister, Kennedy, Lown, Dwyer, Spear, Thorsen and Smith were incumbents.

Twenty-three candidates ran for council. Below are the rest of the unofficial results:

  • Duncan MacCallum: 1,470
  • Bob Shouse: 1,428
  • Gibson Kennedy: 1,403

  • Rick Becksted: 713
  • Mark Brighton: 667
