Portsmouth New Year's Celebration: First Night 2018 Schedule
The First Night Portsmouth 2019 celebration includes fireworks, a downtown ice sculpture, countdown to midnight and more.

PORTSMOUTH, NH — The stage is set for the First Night Portsmouth 2019 celebration. The event is Monday, Dec. 31, and includes fireworks, a downtown ice sculpture, musical performances and countdown to midnight. Pro Portsmouth, which organizes the event, is collecting donations and seeking volunteers for the event.
The fireworks show is at 7:30 p.m. at South Mill Pond. The countdown to midnight will happen at Market Square. There will be a host of musical performances and children's events downtown leading up to midnight.
Pro Portsmouth Executive Director Barbara Massar said First Night costs about $40,000 to put on. The group is selling First Night buttons to help defray the costs. Learn more about the buttons and volunteer opportunities on the Portsmouth First Night website.

- 1 p.m. Ice sculpture works starts at North Church
- 5 p.m. to midnight: Street dance in Market Square hosted by Portsmouth Community Radio
- 6 p.m. Stargazing with the New Hampshire Astronomical Society on Pleasant Street
- 7:30 p.m. Fireworks at South Mill Pond
- Midnight: Countdown to midnight in Market Square
