Portsmouth Police Log: School Bus Accident, Prostititution

School bus accident, prostitution arrest and pedestrian struck by a car were among items in the Portsmouth police log Thursday to Friday.

PORTSMOUTH, NH — The following items were selected from the Portsmouth police log for the time period of Thursday, June 13 to Friday, June 14. Arrests do not indicate guilt. The names of any minors have been omitted.

Thursday, June 13

10:18 a.m. — A missing dog is located on Hancock Street, police help return it to the owner.

10:42 a.m. — Police issue a verbal warning for a dog being off the leash on Little Harbor Road.

11:06 a.m. — A vehicle accident in an Andrew Jarvis Drive parking lot is documented.

11:17 a.m. — A vehicle accident is reported in an Islington Street parking lot. Police help with a ride.

1:02 p.m. — A resident reports loud music coming from a Market Street business.

1:20 p.m. — A vehicle is scratched during a hit-and-run accident in a Woodbury Avenue parking lot.

1:53 p.m. — Fraud involving a Verizon Wireless account is reported. Someone has opened an account using another person's name in May and bought the newest iPhone.

5:18 p.m. — A $400 bike is reported stolen from Bow Street.

7:19 p.m. — Someone is reportedly slapped in the face on South Street.

Friday, June 14

7:42 a.m. — A tractor trailer is struck on Miller Avenue and has some trouble turning around.

11:34 a.m. — A man who had set up camp on Pleasant Street grudgingly moves along after police give him warnings for disorderly conduct and loitering.

12:01 p.m. — An elderly woman reportedly backs into an empty school bus and drives away, in the area of Dwight and Van Buren avenues. The bus has damage, and the rear of the other vehicle is all smashed up. Police identify the suspected driver and no one is home when they go to talk to her. No charges at this time, this might be an age-related issue.

12:40 p.m. — A woman has a bloody nose and a possible head injury after being struck by a vehicle in the area of Court and Atkinson streets. She is transported to the hospital. The man driving the vehicle has no signs of impairment.

2:28 p.m. — An Uber driver reports a man on the porch cleaning grenades and missiles. Fire officials determine those are replica book ends.

3:06 p.m. — Near the railroad tracks on Rock Street, a man is pulling out wild grass for an art project.

3:27 p.m. — A hit-and-run accident on Woodbury Avenue leaves a large scrape down the side of a vehicle, damages the passenger side door and takes out one of the vehicle's lights. No suspects so far.

3:54 p.m. — A customer takes another customer's purse at a a Woodbury Avenue pharmacy. Video footage is reviewed.

4:18 p.m. — A two-vehicle accident in a Lafayette Road parking lot causes no injuries.

4:26 p.m. — A vehicle sustains lots of damage in a hit-and-run accident on Woodbury Avenue. A witness left a note on the incident, but the suspect vehicle, a blue mini-van, does not match the reported license plate.

5:47 p.m. — Rebecca Anne Maines, 44, of Concord, is charged with violation of probation or parole.

6:43 p.m. — On Gosling Road, an officer working on a Granite Shield operation sees a man driving; this man has his license suspended and has an electronic bench warrant on a DWI charge. This man frequents the north side of the city.

7 p.m. — Police investigate possible prostitution at Motel 6 on Gosling Road. A sergeant is staying at the motel to watch the suspected room. A male customer is stopped by police on Market Street and police find two firearms in the center console of the vehicle he is driving. They also give him a verbal warning related to the use of turn signal. Other officers remain on scene to talk to him. Jianhui Li, 38, of Flushing, New York, is arrested on a promoting prostitution charge.

7:24 p.m. — Police transport a woman to a jail.

10:24 p.m. — People who are parked behind Walmart move along after police check on the vehicle that seems suspicious.

11:16 p.m. — A Bow Street bouncer says a man refuses to leave. The man later leaves before police arrival.

11:28 p.m. — On Deer Street, a branch that had been split in two looks like it's going to fall on a car.
