Portsmouth Police Log: Woman Bleeding, Unconscious After Crash

A woman was found choking on own blood after a vehicle struck her in Portsmouth, separate crash involves infant: police logs Aug. 14-Aug.20.

PORTSMOUTH, NH — The Aug. 16 accident involving a woman found unconscious and bleeding after being struck by a vehicle was among incidents reported in the Portsmouth police logs this month. A vehicle with an infant as a passenger was also involved in an separate accident, which occurred the previous day. Several arrests were also reported. The following items are among those listed in the Portsmouth police logs for the time period of Aug. 14 to Aug. 20.

Wednesday, Aug. 14

Mary M. McDermott, 72, of Portsmouth, turns herself in on a criminal threatening warrant. A man reportedly masturbates in front of female "maid staff" on Woodbury Avenue without their consent; the suspect is described as a short Hispanic-looking man possibly driving a white Jeep Cherokee. Also, a "homeless camp" off Barberry Lane is reported. The caller is concerned after hearing there might be children living at the camp.

Thursday, Aug. 15

John Scott, 24, of Saugus, Massachusetts, is arrested on a criminal trespass charge after a house break-in is reported on South Street just after midnight. Jennifer Lynn Prior, 37, of Alton, is arrested on a "failure to pay court order judgements" charge after police see her walking in the area of Spaulding Turnpike North and Arthur Brady Drive. Ryan M. Kern, 23, of Standish, Maine, turns himself in on a warrant for a reckless operation charge and two counts of criminal mischief.

Around 4 p.m., a car with a passenger infant is involved in a two-vehicle accident on Woodbury Avenue. The extent of injuries, if any, is not immediately known, but someone complains of a headache. Three hours earlier, three vehicles were involved in an accident near Woodbury Avenue and Route 1 Bypass. No injuries, but some property damage, are reported in the three-vehicle crash.

Police counsel a homeless man for his behavior after he was reportedly sitting in front of Dos Amigos, yelling and swearing. The man had been drinking, but someone comes to give him a ride home and police do not file charges. Also, a group of kids is reportedly jumping and doing back flips off the Sagamore Avenue bridge.

Friday, Aug. 16

A woman lays in the roadway unconscious, choking on her own blood, after being struck by a vehicle on Woodbury Avenue. The accident is reported just after 1 a.m. Police shut down a portion of the road. They issue a BOLO notice for the suspect vehicle, described as having front-end damage and biological matter on it. It is possibly an SUV or a pickup truck, based on the woman's injuries, State Police say. At the hospital, a piece of a headlight is taken from the victim's leg. Police turn to nearby businesses in search of surveillance footage of the incident that may have captured the suspect vehicle. The victim's mother comes to visit her at the hospital, and police are there, too.

Also, a structure fire is reported on Post Road around 2 a.m. A Portsmouth Regional Hospital patient spits on Newington police officers and a nurse, Newington police report. Three women are given no-trespass notices and warned for disorderly conduct after yelling and name-calling at Dunkin' Donuts on Lafayette Road. An alert is issued regarding a high-risk arrest warrant out of Rochester. A 64-year-old man escapes injury when he is struck by a car, which was backing up on Islington Street near Langdon Street.

No arrests reported today.

Saturday, Aug. 17

A man is found sleeping next to a telephone pole on Lincoln Avenue in the early morning. Fire officials arrive to transport him to an appropriate place. Bonita Jane Rivera, 56, of East Rochester, is charged with theft by deception and arrested on a warrant. The arrest is made by the Rochester police, who located Rivera's warrant out of Epping. Portsmouth police meet Rochester police at the Dover tolls to take custody of her. Also, Gabriel C. Kanakis-Hines, 38, of Greenland, is charged with alcohol-related driving after suspension.

A man in a tie-dye shirt gets a warning for disorderly conduct on Daniel Street, and another man receives a no-trespass notice for a business on Bridge Street.

Sunday, Aug. 18

A man on a Market Square sidewalk appears to be passed out. Fire officials check on him and on three other seemingly intoxicated men. Then an Uber shows up to take them all to Broad Street. No arrests reported today.

Monday, Aug. 19

After a two-vehicle accident in front of Turf Depot, 58-year-old Thomas James Noyes of Greenland is charged with DWI and aggravated DWI. Cody David Ackerson, 23, of Portsmouth, is arrested on an out-of-town warrant for three simple assault charges.

Portsmouth police help the Newington police search for a red Dodge Challenger, in connection with a man threatening to kill himself with a firearm. Police check with local hotels, but the search is unsuccessful. A man also reportedly takes photos of women at a Market Square store, but police do not serve him a trespass notice at this time — the store is asked to report any further such incidents. Also, a Toyota Yaris hits a guard rail in front of Chase House and the driver, who apparently had a medical issue, goes to the hospital.

Tuesday, Aug. 20

Police logs for Aug. 20 were not immediately available.
