Portsmouth Student Wins National Merit Scholarship
A Portsmouth High School student has won a $2,500 scholarship.
PORTSMOUTH, NH — A single student in the city has won a 2021 National Merit Scholarship.
Anna C. St. Jean, who will go to college to work on a probable career in bioinformatics, was one of about 7,500 academic champions to win a scholarship. She will receive $2,500 from the program. Students were awarded close to $30 million this year.
The winners in each state, according to the program, were "judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies." The number of winners in each state is proportional to the state's percentage of the nation's graduating high school seniors, the program said.
