Portsmouth Swimmer Dives Into Swim Across America Effort
Meagan Wengrove joins the fight against pediatric cancer.
PORTSMOUTH, NH – Meagan Wengrove of Portsmouth has joined Swim Across America (SAA) to make a splash for pediatric cancer programs at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and MassGeneral Hospital for Children Cancer Center, according to a press statement.
Wengrove will swim in the 20th annual Boston Harbor Swim on July 8, 2016, alongside Olympians Carlton Bruner, Janel Jorgensen McArdle, Kristy Kowal, Heather Petri, Craig Beardsley, Eric Wunderlich and Erik Vendt.
The SAA Boston Harbor swim, according to the org, is a 22-mile relay style open-water swim from Rowes Wharf behind the Boston Harbor Hotel. Each participants pledges to raise a minimum of $1,500.

Swim Across America is a non-profit organization that runs events across the country to support cancer research. Money raised locally stays local, ensuring that swimmers always know they are making an impact in their respective communities, according to the org. Money from Wengrove's effort will go to MassGeneral as well as the David B. Perini, Jr. Quality of Life Clinic at Dana-Farber. The organization stated that the funds help pediatric cancer survivors "with an array of issues, including long-term effects of treatment, social and psychological concerns, and the risk of second cancers."
