Portsmouth's 'Survival Run,' 5K To Benefit Veterans
Residents are invited to celebrate July Fourth by supporting the veterans at Portsmouth's 5K and Survival Run benefiting Veterans Count.
PORTSMOUTH, NH — This Fourth of July the community is invited to help support veterans by participating in the annual 5K and Survival Run in Portsmouth. All proceeds from the two races will go toward Veterans Count. In addition to the 5K race, the popular one-mile Survival Run will ask participants to run in boots and wear a backpack weighing approximately 10 percent of their body weight.
"The Survival Run is a lot of fun and is a great was to symbolically show support for our veterans," said Race Director David Hampson, member of the Veterans Count Seacoast Chapter. "The crowds are great — it is one of my personal favorite races. It is challenging, scenic and festive."
The seventh annual Pack & Boots 5K and Survival Run is taking place July 4. Both races start at Peirce Island and loop around downtown Portsmouth. Those looking for an extra challenge are encouraged to sign up for both races at a discounted rate. Registration fees vary, but the first 100 veterans to register may participate for free.

The races are open to all ages. Creating a team consisting of family, friends or co-workers is highly encouraged. For those who are ages 5 and younger, the event will once again hold a free 100-meter Kids Fun Run.
"This is an incredible program that provides critically needed services to NH service members, veterans and their families," noted Hampson. "The race is a chance to show your support for the men and women who help ensure the liberties we enjoy every day. It is a wonderful family event with a very important mission."

The Survival Run will start at 8 a.m. on the Fourth of July, and the 5K will begin at 8:30 a.m. Same-day registration will begin at 7 a.m. at Peirce Island. Participants may also register for the races online and use the keyword PACK.
Veterans' Count is the philanthropic arm of the Easterseals Military & Veterans Services. It provides financial assistance and resources to veterans and their families.
