Rockingham County Sheriff Michael Downing's Funeral Arrangements
Downing died Friday at the age of 61 after a battle with cancer. A wake will be held Wednesday. His funeral will be Thursday.

Rockingham County Sheriff Michael Downing died Friday following a period of failing health. He was 61.
He leaves behind his wife, Heidi, and their five children.
Downing reportedly had been suffering from cancer.

Downing was in the middle of his second term as sheriff. He was first elected in 2010 after serving in the House and Senate. He was a State Police officer for many years and served on Salem’s police department. He was also an Army veteran.
Public visitation will be held Wed., April 22 at Windham High School from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral will be Thur., April 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew Parish in Windham.

“The family of Sheriff Downing offers their sincere gratitude for the kindness and compassion expressed to them during this difficult time,” his office said in a statement. “They also offer their heartfelt appreciation to the law enforcement community for their continued support.”
