Shaheen Wins Ward 5 City Council Race

In her quest to win a City Council seat, Stefany Shaheen took an important first step by winning the Ward 5 City Council race.

When the Ward 5 polls at Little Harbour School closed at 7 p.m., Shaheen received 622 of the 1,193 ballots cast. Ward 5 officials said they saw a 35 percent turnout of the 3.2442 registered voters, which was the highest voter turnout in the city's five wards.

City Councilor Esther Kennedy finished second with 617 votes. Assistant Mayor Robert Lister finished third with 596 votes and Jim Splaine finished fourth with 593 votes. Mayor Eric Spear finished eighth with 493 votes out of a field of 23 candidates who are vying for nine council seats.
