BB Gun-Wielding Skateboarders Shoot Store Worker

The following information was provided by the Portsmouth Police log. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

The following is an excerpt from the Portsmouth Police log from Sunday, Oct. 20 to Monday, Oct. 21.

Sunday:

  • At 9:46 a.m., police reported a hit and run accident on State Street.
  • At 10:31 a.m., police reported criminal trespass on Verdun after a male subject did not heed a barment letter that had been served by a business.
  • At 12:05 p.m., police reported a motor vehicle theft on Maplewood Avenue.
  • At 12:30 p.m., police reported a theft on Austin Street after the caller said someone broke into her car and smashed the car window. It was not clear if any items were stolen from the vehicle.
  • At 12:56 p.m., police reported an attempted theft of a pair of woman's underwear at the Modern Landry on State Street.
  • At 2:53 p.m., police reported a two-car accident on Congress Street without injury.
  • At 3:14 p.m., police reported that an employee was struck by a BB after about six kids on skateboards were firing an air gun on Woodbury Avenue.
Monday:
  • At 8:44 a.m., police reported a hit and run accident on Greenleaf Avenue and Hillside Drive.
  • At 9:19 a.m., police reported criminal trespassing on Verdun Avenue.
  • At 5:38 p.m., police reported criminal trespassing after some dirt bikers were spotted on the railroad tracks off Barberry Lane.
  • At 5:48 p.m., police reported fraud at a Route One Bypass northbound business after a store clerk said someone had passed a counterfeit $20 bill.
  • At 6:45 p.m., police arrested a Portsmouth man who was wanted as a fugitive from justice after he turned himself in at the police station. Jeffrey Coughlin, 29, of 419 Lincoln St. was wanted for theft of a motor vehicle, violation of a protective order; penalty, driving after revocation or suspension and a bench warrant.
  • At 8:37 p.m., police reported a shoplifter was caught by the staff of a Woodbury Avenue and allowed to leave the store after she paid for the items she tried to steal.
