Our nephew, Matthew Lynch, was diagnosed with Fibrolamellar Hepatocellular Carcinoma (FHC) at age 13 and in June 2014, lost his battle at 15 years old. He lived in Virginia with his parents, Gail & Rory, sister & brother, Shannon & Kyle, and their dog, Bates.

Matthew was a true warrior. Throughout his illness he insisted on living vibrantly in the present, while making plans for the future. He was curious about so many things; if an interest struck his fancy he would follow it with passion. Matthew was bold, funny, sensitive, direct, honest and determined not to let cancer squelch his zest for life. Matthew continues to inspire us and we miss him daily. To infinity and beyond!

Only 200 people a year are diagnosed worldwide with fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma. In addition to Matthew, we wanted to take this opportunity to recognize the following New Hampshire residents connected with this disease:

Nicole Jacques, a resident of Hudson, NH was diagnosed early in 2014 when she was 14 years old. Nicole was an avid cheerleader with two younger siblings. Nicole died only four months after diagnosis in May 2014, leaving behind her parents, sister and brother who miss her tremendously.

Amanda Russell was from Conway, NH, and was diagnosed in 2009 when she was 30. She fought for 6 years while living life to the fullest. With an incredible sense of style and grace, Amanda taught all who encountered her to love big. Sadly, Amanda died in April 2015. She is loved and missed by her wife, Kelly, family and friends.

Tim lives in Greenland, NH and is 34 years old. He was diagnosed in June 2012. Tim has had a successful resection with no reoccurrence. Tim is an avid golfer and a huge help in supporting this “Slay the Beast” golf tournament and benefit.

Fibrolamellar Hepatocellular Carcinoma (FHC) is so rare, it receives very little funding for research. Exciting research developments are happening, but it takes money and support to make progress. The Fibrolamellar Cancer Foundation (FCF) was created to fund research and clinical trials dedicated to finding a cure for this cancer and supporting the families affected by the disease. All net proceeds from this event will benefit FCF.

Please join us & help this cause as a sponsor, golfer, or for the social. Pre-registration is required & deadlines are approaching. We would love to see you.
