NH Police Officer Struck By SUV While Investigating Crash

Derry Police Officer Kevin Davies was injured on Friday while investigating another accident on Drew Road.

DERRY, NH — Derry police are investigating an accident on Drew Road where a police officer was struck by an SUV while investigating an accident on Friday.

At 7:40 a.m., a small passenger car slid into a guardrail on Drew Road in Derry and police responded to the scene. A tow truck was at the top of the hill when witnesses said an SUV drove by and lost control on the snow-covered hill.

Derry Police Capt. Vern Thomas said the officer, Kevin Davies, was out of his cruiser and standing behind it with the tailgate open when he was struck.

Thomas said Davies was transported to Parkland Medical Center with significant leg injuries and called the injuries serious but non-life-threatening.

The Derry police accident investigation unit is investigating the scene and had Drew Road closed until 11:30 a.m. when all vehicles were removed from the scene.

Thomas said the driver of the SUV remained at the scene and was cooperating with the police. The investigation is still underway and there are no charges at this time. The driver of the SUV was uninjured in the crash.
