Don't Miss National Night Out In Salem

Demonstrations, a dunk tank, a cycling officer, police dog, food, fun and more are in store at National Night Out in Salem.

SALEM, NH — The Salem Police Department invites residents to get to know their local police officers and firefighters during the family friendly annual event, National Night Out. It's taking place this Tuesday, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the police station, located at 9 Veterans Memorial Parkway. There will be various vehicles on display, a police dog and a mobile smoke house to teach children about fire safety.

Police Officer Joseph DeFeudis will be pedaling throughout the three-hour-long event on a stationary bike, to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. DeFeudis, who has run the Boston Marathon twice, will be representing a team in training in the Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii this October. He is conducting fundraising efforts in memory of his mother.

Tuesday's National Night Out will also feature a dunk tank, giveaways, the Canobie Lake Park Fun Squad and characters, raffles, a petting zoo, a bouncy house, face painting, a photo booth, a disc jockey and food, including pizza, popcorn, gelato and more.

There will be numerous demonstrations throughout the event, including those featuring Salem's police dog and motorcycle unit. Taser instructions will also be covered.

The Southern New Hampshire Special Operations Unit will also be present at the event, and the New Hampshire Police Association Pipes and Drums are scheduled to perform.

Various vehicles, including emergency vehicles, a tow truck, luxury cars and a funny car, will be on display. The Salem Fire Department will bring its smoke house, a mobile trailer designed to teach kids about fire safety.

National Night Out is free to attend. The goal is to foster and strengthen relationships between public safety officials and the residents, according to the Salem police.
