Injuries Result In Portsmouth Commercial Truck Crash

One person was taken to the hospital after a vehicle accident involving a commercial vehicle on Route 16 in Portsmouth.

PORTSMOUTH, NH — One person was taken to the hospital Friday after an accident involving a commercial vehicle and a passenger vehicle. The accident occurred on Route 16 around 6:16 a.m. Police say a commercial truck rolled onto its side after the crash, near mile marker 1.

According to the State Police, the driver of the truck, 1 50-year-old Milton resident, a was changing lanes and failed to yield to a Nissan Frontier, driven by a 50-year-old Rochester woman. Both vehicles left the roadway and struck a large highway sign as a result of the collision, police say.

Minor injuries were reported, and one person was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital, according to police. The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. New Hampshire Department of Transportation and National Wrecker responded to the accident, and the right lane of Route 16 was closed for about an hour and a half as a result of the crash.

State Police say they inspected the Ford E350 commercial truck after the accident, and found some violations, including failure to wear a safety belt and having no record of duty status.

Witnesses to the collision are asked to call State Police Troop A at 603-223-8490.
